Whether you are celebrating a new romance or a special anniversary, romantic weekend getaways are a great way to take some time to enjoy life – especially in the winter. The views of Colorado’s countryside and mountains in the snow are spectacular. There are plenty of fun activities in and around Cripple Creek that will keep you entertained and busy, leaving you to enjoy a deluxe suite and private fireplace at the Midnight Rose during the evening. Below are just some of the year-round activities you can enjoy that are close to the hotel and have you feeling refreshed after just a weekend!

Colorado’s beauty shines year-round, and taking a winter hike through Pike National Forest is a great way to experience the beauty of the outdoors while getting some exercise and fresh air. It is also an opportunity to unplug from everything and be present in the moment, connecting with nature.

If you are up for a bit more adventure or find the outdoors too chilly but still want to get out there, you can rent a utility terrain vehicle (UTV ) from Great Outdoor Adventures. You can choose from a guided tour, sit back and relax and enjoy the scenery, or take the driver’s seat and take a self-guided ride using a navigation system.

Cripple Creek is a town full of the incredible history that exemplifies how the west was won. While the Mollie Kathleen Goldmine is closed in the winter, you can still learn about the area and its history by visiting the local museums, including the Heritage Center and the Outlaws & Lawmen Jail Museum.

The Heritage Center is a great spot to learn the rich past of Cripple Creek from its beginnings as a gold camp to the present day. It also includes exhibits on local geology, wildlife, and recreation.

For a further dive into Cripple Creek’s history, a trip to the Outlaws & Lawmen Jail Museum highlights some of the shadier accounts of the area and insight into the lives of the lawmen that worked to keep the peace in the gold camp and town.
